Unlike any other ship in the U.S. Navy, LSTs did it all.
They shelled the enemy positions like the main combat ships.
They hauled cargo to support our troops.
They acted as "Mother Ships" to the smaller combat craft in "Brown Water Navy" operations and even became "Aircraft Carriers" with "choppers" landing and takeing off on the main deck.
